MTB in Transylvanian Highlands
Overview
A tour to remember through the highest hills of Transylvania. It is aimed at intermediate and advanced cyclists. There are two demanding days that include push biking on certain parts, so an average physical condition is recommended.
The area between Sibiu, Mediaș, Sighișoara, Rupea, Făgăraș is one of the best preserved areas in Romania. The region itself, known by several names – Transylvanian Hills, Hârtibaciului Valley and Plateau, Saxon Country – is the second largest protected area in Romania after the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve.
The Hârtibaciului plateau welcomes you with forests – nature reserves, with meadows and pastures in which the traditional methods of grazing and returning the hay are widely practiced. Small authentic Saxon villages, hidden in the valleys or sneaked in, as if between the hills stand historical evidence next to fortified churches, some included in UNESCO. Reserves of flora and fauna that are protected and preserved in their natural environment by conservation programs already with tradition.
The only authentic medieval landscape preserved in Europe and, at the same time, unique in terms of the area of national protected areas.
Our program starts on a Thursday afternoon in the village of Șoarș and ends on Sunday evening. We have three full days in which to cycle easily, to enjoy the landscape, the cultural and historical heritage that the area offers us and last but not least the visits and programs that we have prepared for you.
